A big thank you to my EAST partner Stephanie Estrin for hooking me up with VoyageHouston, an online magazine that features local Houston and surrounding cities artists and creatives. Check out my little interview!

Just keeping a record...

I was here. And so was my painting Sweet Willow.

I also hung most of my recent paintings in a one night show. No sales but a learning experience. Nothing like being set up next to a wall of erotic art. Thankfully, I had decided to leave the kiddos at home.

And coming up this Friday...I'll have one piece in the WEST Raising Artists Exhibition. Opening night 5/8 and showing through 5/16.  This is very exciting. I really admire this organization and hope to do more with them in the future. Also, I hadn't planned on doing WEST (the spring version of EAST) but I can still say I was a participant!

I was also lucky enough through generousart.org to be working with an Artist mentor. I've been so excited about this!!! We've only met once but it was an amazing experience and I can't wait to blog more about what I've learned from a successful artist. Ok...off to bed. Tomorrow is a new day to make art.

I'm ready for Spring

2 small finished paintings. We are still having bursts of cold in our neck of the woods but sprinkled with bits of sun and warmth. The flowers want so badly to emerge! Yes!

Collections

2/12/2015

I admit it- I am a collector. Not a hoarder! There is a difference...at least I think there is. Anyway, I’ve been collecting ideas. A LOT of ideas. In my head, on paper, in notebooks. Admittedly, this has been going on my whole life, but something happened and switched it into overdrive. I discovered some really beautiful painters, I went to the library and found some wonderful books, but most importantly I’ve been reminding myself to make art wherever I am. The bag I carry around is ridiculous- I’m sure I could make do with less- but the one day I leave my white gouache or exacto knife at home I’m a mess without it. Of course, this has also forced me to work with something else I might not have picked up had I not forgotten said art supply.

Which leads me to my little art collections. Some days I just love my prismacolors- specifically teal, orange and yellow, blended and toned with white and cream.

Other days I’m haunted by faces and expressions that hold a whole story or just an emotion. I  have to drop everything and sketch and refine in pencil.

Some days I just want to shade and make textures.
And then there are those days when a needle and/or thread are needed to bring that feeling of holding an object, hand-crafted, and cherished with each stitch and breath.
I love watching colors blend and move together.
Most of all I just want to keep making and drawing and painting and stitching.
If you are interested in any of these items feel free to shoot me a message. These are all for the most part studies for larger pieces and are under 8 x 10 - most are under 4 x 6.  Thanks for reading this far!  Comments are always loved an appreciated.

New Year and time to reflect

Ahhhh....as much as I love the holidays it’s always nice to just relish the calm and quiet that is winter AFTER all of that chaos. Time to settle in with warm socks (with stripes!), a warm drink and listen to your thoughts. I don’t make resolutions but tell myself to keep trying, to keep improving, and stay on a path that will lead me to a more creative filled life.

That being said I have “resolved” myself to painting and drawing more. And not just more, but concentrating on getting better at drawing the human face as well as anatomy, and focusing on styles, color and balance, in particular when it comes to painting. I would like to have a show -gallery yes!- at some point this year. So, I have 2 specific routes I want to take- finish the 15 or so paintings that have gone through many (oh so many!) layers and finish (start) the drawing/collage project that has been sitting in my head for far too long.

Here are 2 of the paintings that I have completed or are near completion:

Some of these drawings will be used in the project:

I’ve posted progress of these and more on Instagram and FB so please feel free to follow me for more updates. As always, comments and thoughts are always appreciated. I love to discuss and make new friends ;o).

So a few weeks ago I participated in a one night show hosted by a local architect firm Studio 8. A hoard of my family and friends showed up to support me as well as partake in free food, drink and live music. My dad was most impressed by the musician's ability to play the tambourine with his feet!

This was a nice kick off to my upcoming EAST show with my fellow studio mate Cecily. I'm trying to force myself to be organized. It's HARD to do!

Here are a few pics of the show set up and the happiness that ensued...
